WORKERS OF THE ELEVENTH HOUR

“In the Final Journey, Workers of the Light: Sowing Love and Hope, Following in the Footsteps of Jesus.” In Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, where the lights of hope seemed to shine on every corner, an extraordinary group known as Trabalhadores da Última Hora devoted their time to the noble mission of serving love and food to those most in need. On cold winter nights or during the intense heat of summer, they chose to bring comfort not only to empty stomachs, but also to troubled hearts. Equipped with baskets filled with nutritious snacks and home-cooked meals, the volunteers set out through the city streets in a humble Kombi van. Along the way, they encountered people experiencing homelessness who, despite adversity, still carried smiles of gratitude. The Trabalhadores da Última Hora offered them warm food, blankets, and—most importantly—a human connection that transcended the barriers of indifference. The group extended its generosity to hospitals as well, where individuals anxiously awaited medical care. In busy waiting rooms, the volunteers distributed comforting meals, providing a moment of relief for those facing difficult times. Among the volunteers were individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds, united by a single purpose: to be a light in the darkness of need. Their moving stories, prayers, and words of encouragement soothed the hearts of those waiting for nourishment. On those memorable nights, they invariably encountered elderly women and men who were alone and abandoned. Beyond feeding them, the Trabalhadores da Última Hora offered companionship and listened attentively to their stories. This exchange of experiences brought comfort both to the volunteers and to those they served, proving that the act of service goes far beyond simply providing food. At the end of each night, the Trabalhadores da Última Hora had not only fed hungry bodies, but also nourished souls longing for compassion. Their commitment stood as a living testimony that, even in the final hours of the day, it is possible to illuminate lives and spread hope—one loving meal, served with a touch of humanity.
